Vampires

Hi Everyone ;o)

It's Stacy, from MagicLoveCrow ;o) The lovely Natasha has asked me to do a guest post for The Butterfly Effect Blog ;o) Thanks so much Natasha! I am so excited! I'm doing my happy dance ;o)

When Natasha asked me to come up with a theme, the first thing that came to mind, was vampires! I was thinking to myself, why would I think that? I know why!!!! It's because of Johnny Depp's new movie, Dark Shadows ;o) For those of you, who don't know me, I love Johnny ;o) So, this theme is in honor of him ;o)
source
Have fun everyone ;o) You don't have to paint Johnny as Barnabas. Paint whatever type of vampire you like ;o) Cute, freaky, funny or scary. I can't wait to see what you all come up with ;o) And, if you don't paint, write, do what you want to ;o)

My one question I would like you all to answer is, if you were a vampire, what would be your name?

Oh, I almost forgot, I'm having a giveaway for this guest post ;o) Yeh!!! I did a little 4 x 4 painting on canvas board, of Barnabas Crow ;o) I really tried to make him look like Johnny ;o) I think he turned out cute ;o) Hope you all like him ;o)

Have fun creating everyone! Keep On Smiling ;o)

saints and sinners and such

so all week i was stoked about our theme PATRON SAINTS

i just think it's such a cool idea and there is so much room for interpretation.

fun
fun
fun

♥♥♥

anyway.  here is what i love.

sometimes there are stories and poems and

i'm saying it wrong.  what i mean is that there are stories and rich histories behind the things that we are sharing and making and drawing and writing

and it  makes me get pretty stoked about each new theme.

i'm always excited to go around on saturday and see what everyone has written and painted and shared.

Patron Saints

This week our theme is PATRON SAINTS

i love that theme

as inspiration i'd like to share a photo of some artwork by my friend luna

Our Lady Of Perpetual Procrastination

via

this theme is so cool and there are so many fun things that we could potentially do with it that i've been looking forward to it all week.

i mean, i am over the moon stoked to see what everyone's patron saint may be.

i found this cool listing where patron saints are listed by topic and you can cruise that for some ideas if you'd like.

wikipedia defines patron saints as:

patron saint is a saint who, in Roman Catholic practice, is regarded as the intercessor and advocate in heaven of a nation, place, craft, activity, class, clan, family, or person.[1] Patron saints, because they have already transcended to the metaphysical, are believed to be able to intercede effectively for the needs of their special charges.

more listings of patron saints for you to peruse...

and here is the largest index of patron saints that i could find A-Z patron saints

patron saint of grunge

saint gustavo, patron saint of mutt seizures

next week we have a guest post from stacy and her theme will be vampires.

but all this week?

patron saints!

Underwater reflections

Underwater was our theme this week.

great week.  great links.

i LOVED the post that inspired all of this artwork - concise and good.

so last night, oh i'm reading 'water for elephants' by the way - i've had it for ages and never got to it and since we moved and haven't unpacked our books yet, i just checked it out from the library. so i was reading it last night and the narrator was describing how he felt it would be to be in the last seconds of drowning - when the fight is all out of you and you think of how peaceful it will be to let go and just allow the water to embrace you.

it really affected me and i cannot stop thinking about drowning and even just how awful it is when you can't draw breath for a second because you accidentally got the covers over your face while sleeping.

Look.  i have no idea where i was going with that.  they were just some random thoughts that had a loose association with 'underwater'.

downer.

i'm sorry.

hey!

i'll make it right.

wanna see the artwork from this week?

hidden / secret things

this week's theme is hidden / secret things

first i want to say that i didn't share photos in this post because i think we all have our own secrets and ways of hiding them.  i'll save mine for my post.  you don't want my stupid secrets to be your inspiration photos.

are you a diary keeper?  is that where you keep your secrets?  do you keep them in your memory instead for fear that some dirty bird gets ahold of your diary?

remember when you were a kid and you'd sometimes have a secret code or language - and you'd write your secrets down in your language or mark them in symbols?

do  you have symbols that you use in your art - known only to you?  do you put your secret things in layers beneath your paintings?  do you use your secret things to tell a story that only you know?  do you have a symbols diary or dictionary?  do you keep them in your mind?  do you let them creep out into your art?

i believe that we all have some internal visual vocabulary of private symbols and marks.  do you build up a story in your artwork with your symbols?

do you write your secrets down in your art journal and then make them too difficult for a viewer to read by splattering them with paint or double writing over the top of them?

do you use little envelopes in your journals and tuck secret notes in them?

have you ever sent an anonymous letter or comment with a secret in it?

remember being a kid and passing an anonymous note to your crush telling them 'someone likes them'

anonymous and secret and hidden things - parts we keep close to ourselves because we can't let the outside world see too much of us.

it is dangerous to our sense of self to show everything, right?  we learn pretty early to always hold a little back in reserve just for ourselves to know about.

so how are you going to interpret this week's theme?

are you going to make some art with your secret hidden in it?

will you illustrate a scene with hidden pictures?

maybe you will tell us a secret!  (that is highly encouraged)

will you write or paint a story with a hidden meaning?

will you share a photograph or series of photographs that tells a secret story?

next week's theme is Under Water and Natasa will have a tutorial to share with us too!

but for this week, the theme is hidden / secret things.
